A continuation of the story “Burden of Penalty” following Chapter 7, “Fawning”. Aaron, Rebecca, and Anna take Aria to Zână to be released from the burden of penalty. It’s revealed that the fate of their lives does not truly rest in Zână’s hands and there are consequences. Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony.

The first ultrasound has a profound effect on all those involved and forever changes how Aaron and Rebecca perceive their curse. Everything suddenly changes after Rebecca returns home from a hunting trip. Aaron learns that she's been forced into a desperate situation and that the mistake she made will have drastic consequences for them both that may last the rest of their lives.
